Over the next few months St Nicholas Hospice Care aims to raise £10,000 to boost its Orchard Day Therapy centre. The day patient area is a vital part of the hospice, helping people to feel more confident and maximise their quality of life.

It offers supportive and social activites - physical, emotional and spiritual - including relaxation techniques and coping with fatigue, or can simply offer a calming place to have a cup of tea.

Other services include a fantastic Headstart programme, which offers valuable advice on coping with hair loss.

Orchard tailors therapies to individual patients, with services from advice on claiming benfits to aromatherapy and physiotherapy to help with movement and mobility.

Orchard Day Therapy runs every Tuesday and Wednesday over 44 weeks of the year - but the valuable service comes at a great cost.

The £10,000 needed to raise equates to  a third of all nursing costs for a year, or covers the entire amount needed to pay for the vital patient transport costs, where hospice volunteers pick up and take home Orchard patients.
